Obituary for Gladys Nealer (Hans)

Gladys  Nealer (Hans)
Gladys E. (Hans) Nealer, 88, of Shelocta, formerly of Indiana, died Monday, July 21, 2014, at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. Born August 29, 1925, in Rockingham, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. Hans and Olive M. (Hans) Zavalydriga.

She was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church.

Gladys was a graduate of the former Elders Ridge High School. She had worked at Brody’s Department Store and Campus Sportswear, both of Indiana. She formerly managed the concession stands at the Keystone Overlook and Mack Park Pool. She owned and operated the restaurant, “Granny’s Place”, in Shelocta from 1984 – 2000. Gladys was known for her many talents which included gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking, especially popular were her cinnamon rolls, apple pie, fudge and potato soup. She enjoyed camping and spent time camping in Florida, on Pymtuning Lake and Big Mahoning Creek. She loved animals and will be missed by her beloved dachshund, Dolly.

Her surviving children are: Toni Weston & husband, Howard, Creekside; Pamela Gaudio & husband, Vincent, Pittsburgh; Paul J. Nealer & wife, Pamela, Shelocta and Matt Nealer & wife, Marti, New Castle. She is also survived by the following grandchildren: Josh Taylor & wife, Helen; Randy Taylor & wife, Jaime; Angela Nealer; Greg and Brian Gaudio; and Ashlee Kerle & husband, Shawn; and Paige Nealer. Gladys also has five great grandchildren: Halie, Olivia, Megan and Aidan Taylor and Kinsey Kerle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Paul E. Nealer; granddaughter, Christy Nealer; great grandson, Timothy Taylor and her brother, Harold Hans.

Visitation will be from 3 – 5 & 7 – 9 PM Wednesday, July 23rd at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday morning at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, Indiana. Interment will be in St. Bernard cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Gladys’ honor to St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church.
