Obituary for Cyril James "Cy" Zenisek

Cyril James “Cy” Zenisek, 88 of Indiana, died Monday, July 28, 2014 while residing at the Communities of Indian Haven. Cy was born February 6, 1926 in Cleveland, OH to Frank and Clara Zenisek.

After receiving his secondary education in Cleveland, he entererd Ohio State University where he received a B.S. in Conservation. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he returned to O.S.U. earning an M.S. in Ornithology and a PhD in Ecology.

He began his teaching career at O.S.U. as an assistant instructor and taught at Ohio University before moving to Indiana where he joined the Biology Dept. at Indiana State Teachers College.

Cy is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Lou Zenisek. His surviving children are: Julia Gigliotti & husband, Ernie, Plum Borough; Jeffrey Zenisek & wife, Renee, Beaver Falls; and Daniel Zenisek & wife, Dana, Homer City. He is also survived by the following 9 grandchildren: Alex and Ian Beitler and Faith Mahtani, all of Pittsburgh; Nicholas Zenisek, Las Vegas; Joseph and Emily Zenisek, Beaver Falls; and Matthew Zenisek, Indiana, Brianna and Austin Zenisek, of Homer City. His only surviving brother is Paul Zenisek, Columbus, OH.

In addition to his parents, Cy was preceded in death by the following siblings: Francis, Dorothy, Rosemary and Betty, all of Cleveland.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, August 14th at 11 AM at St. Thomas More University Parish, Indiana. Rev. Alan Polczynski, principle celebrant and Rev. William Lechnar , homilist. The Zenisek Family will welcome friends in the Narthex of the church prior to the beginning of mass. A private entombment will be made at the St. Bernard Mausoleum, in Indiana.

Memorial donations may be made to the Foundation For IUP (Fund 8481/Allegheny Arboretum), Sutton Hall, Room G1, 1011 South Drive, Indiana, PA 15705. Memorial donations may also be made to a charitable organization of the donor’s choice.
