Mary Fleck (Hoyas)
Mary (Hoyas) Fleck, 94, of Ernest, died peacefully, with her family at her side on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Forbes Hospital, Monroeville. Born in Coral, PA on September 8, 1920, she was a daughter of the late, Joseph Hoyas and Helen (Macey) Hoyas. She was the widow of Layard Leroy “Pouch” Fleck, who died September 14, 2006.

She and “Pouch” moved to Ernest to raise their family while he worked in the coal mines. Mary worked for Aramark at IUP for many years. She was very active in the Church of the Resurrection, Ernest. She was “Famous” in Ernest for her excellent cooking and canning skills. However, her grandchildren will tell you she made the best cookies in the world, and they will be missed. She led a long and full life.

Mary is survived by her sons: Ronald Fleck & wife, Dorothy. Murrysville and Larry Fleck & wife, Sue, North Carolina. Other survivors include her sister, Jane Adams, Maryland and the following grandchildren: Vicki McGuire & husband, Andy; Ronald Fleck, Jr. & wife, Sandra; Lisa Ihrig; Jeff Fleck & wife, Kim; Jason Fleck & wife, Alexis; Shawn Fleck & wife, Melissa; Elisha Fleck; and Jesica Fleck. Her surviving great grandchildren are: Mackenzie McGuire; Ryan Ihrig; Alek Fleck; Joey McGuire; Luke Fleck; Colin Ihrig; Nate Fleck; Cade Fleck; Jeffrey Fleck; Ronnie Fleck; Kaiya Fleck; Gianna Fleck; Brycen Fleck and Antonio Fleck.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Steve, John and Joe Hoyas; Helen Schruba and Catherine Canton.

Mary’s life will be celebrated with a visitation on Wednesday, September 24th from 4:00 – 9:00 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, Inc., 965 Philadelphia St., Indiana, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning at eleven o’clock at the Church of the Resurrection, Ernest. Rev. Timothy Kruthaupt will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Indiana.
