Obituary for James G. Wiley

James G.  Wiley
James Gilbert Wiley, 92 of Indiana, died Friday, January 22nd, 2016 at the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Greater Pittsburgh in Greensburg. The son of the late Sevia Vern Wiley and Mildred Isabelle (Lucas) Wiley, he was born in Tyrone, PA on September 18, 1923.

A 1941 graduate of Indiana High School, Jim went on to earn a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University in 1944. He first worked for General Electric in Connecticut before returning to Indiana where he married Peggy Lou Yanity on September 11, 1948. Jim began his career with R&P Coal Company, and after nearly forty years, retired as Assistant Chief Engineer in 1985. After retiring, he worked part time for the former Frank T. Mihalcik Funeral Home and Bence-Mihalcik Funeral Home of Indiana.

Jim’s grandchildren and great grandchildren brightened his days and he loved spending time with them. Golf was his number one pastime for much of his retirement. He also enjoyed bowling, refinishing furniture and cheering for the Penn State Nittany Lions Football Team.

Jim volunteered with the Indiana County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a volunteer mentor with Junior Achievement. He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, Indiana.

Jim will be remembered by his children: James A. Wiley & wife, Jackie, Indiana, PA; Patricia A. Newman & husband, Bill, Greensburg, PA; Peggy Jo Foley & husband, Terry, Marietta, GA; and Mary Kay Bell & husband, Larry, State College, PA. His surviving grandchildren are: Brittany Wampler & wife, Staci; Michael Garner & fiancé, Hayley Kawana; Sam Wiley & wife, Megan; Kate Newman; John Newman & wife, Sasha; Susan Newman & fiancé, Andrew Hollis; James Newman; Allison Foley; Sean Foley; Matt Bell & wife, Megan; Megan Bell; and his three great-grandchildren: Kannin Garner and Kallie and Piper Wiley. Jim is also survived by two siblings: Arlene Peterson, Indiana, PA and Donald Wiley, Kansas City, KS.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, Peggy, and parents, Jim was preceded in death by his siblings: Adelaide Wiley Browell; Sevia Glenn “Bud” Wiley; Audrey Wiley Stahura and Robert Wiley.

Friends will be received Tuesday, January 26th from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. On Wednesday morning, there will be a visitation at the funeral home beginning at 10AM, with a service at 11AM. The Rev. David J. Hanna will officiate. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
