Obituary for William G. "Bill" Dixon

William G. "Bill"  Dixon
William Glenn Dixon, 64 of Indiana, unexpectedly died at his home, Sunday, October 23, 2016. Born in Indiana, February 20, 1952, he was the son of the late Orville Glenn Dixon and Elizabeth Jean (Brown) Dixon. He married his wife of 28 years, Christine (McCracken) Dixon, August 26, 1989.

Bill was a graduate of the former Elders Ridge High School. He worked in the coal mines for 16 years before he became a truck driver for 19 years. Bill hauled, coal, shale, pipes for gas wells and others supplies during his time as a truck driver. He also operated his own butcher shop during his spare time.

He was an avid hunter who enjoyed the outdoors. He always watched the Pirates and Steelers games. Bill was a member of the UMWA and the F.O.E. Lodge 1488 of Blairsville.

In addition to his wife, Christine, he is survived by his step-children: Tim Cummins & wife, Donna, Monongahela; Sheila Rankin & husband, Don, Creekside; Emerson Cummins & wife, Wendy, Elderton and Rie Lauver & husband, Eric. Jefferson Hills. His surviving grandchildren are: Tim Cummins; Kaitlin Potts; Tessa, Jake and Haley Rankin; Alex and Aaron Lauver and his great grandchildren are: Tim, Alex and Matthew Cummins. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Swarden, West Lebanon.

Friends will be received Wednesday, October 26th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. His funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 11 AM at the funeral home with VNA Hospice Chaplain, Tom Spiker officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
