Obituary for Dorothy Krupnik (Vogel)

Dr. Dorothy (Cordelia) Vogel Krupnik, 77, of Indiana, died Tuesday December 13, 2016 at Communities at Indian Haven. Born in New York City on May 23, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Frank John Vogel and Cordelia Barbara Vogel. She was the widow of Professor Joseph Stanley Krupnik, who died in August of 2011.

In 1961 Dorothy graduated from of Marymount College of Fordham University, in Terry Town New York. In the same year, she was awarded Fulbright scholarship to Germany. In 1970, she obtained a PhD from New York University. She completed her career as a full professor of History (specialization in European history) at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was an avid world traveler who had visited South America, West Africa, South East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, in addition to numerous trips to Europe. With a kind and gentle heart, and she made friends everywhere she went. In Indiana, she drew strength from friendships made at St. Thomas More University Parish (especially Table 1), her swim team, coffee club, and church choir. She was a great lover of animals – especially dogs and cats – and of learning new languages.

She will be remembered by her son, who cherished his mother: Timothy Joseph Krupnik, and his wife Sadia Rahman, who live in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dorothy is also remembered by her brother, Frank Vogel and his wife Sylvia Vogel, of Long Island, NY, and nephew John Vogel, in addition to brothers and sisters in law, Lawrence and Linda Krupnik of Virginia, Stanley and Joyce Krupnik of New York, Mary Verne Krupnik and Dale Stevens of Maryland, and three nieces, Alexandria, Jill, and Kathryn Krupnik.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Friends will be received Friday, December 16th from 4:00PM-6:30PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday December 17th at 11:00AM at the St. Thomas More University Parish with Rev. Alan Polczynski, celebrant.
