Obituary for Margaret Getty (Phillips)

Margaret  Getty (Phillips)
Margaret (Phillips) Getty, 98, of Homer City, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. Born March 18, 1919 in Tipton, PA, Clearfield County, to the late David A. Phillips and Dossie L. (Gensler) Phillips. Margaret was the loving wife of Wayne S. Getty, whom she married May 17,1935. Margaret and Wayne spent 51 years together before his death on February 11,1987. Together they raised seven children.

Margaret was a homemaker who loved to cook and try new recipes. She loved to travel, and never thought twice about jumping in her car and taking off. She enjoyed reading, shopping and visiting with her friends. She truly loved being a mother and grandmother. Family gatherings were what she loved to do the most. She loved all of her furry four footed children, Lady dog, Kit Kat and Taz. She will be especially missed by her little buddy Harley.

She is survived by her seven children: Hazel Stephens, Dundee, FL; Robert D. Getty, Homer City; Donald W. Getty, Homer City; Kenneth E. Getty & wife Denise, Homer City; Peggy Leipper & husband Thomas, Dundee, FL; Linda Getty, Dundee, FL; and James L. Getty & wife Sharon, Aultman. Also survived by her twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, and fourteen great-great grandchildren. Two sister in laws,
Helen Getty and Loraine Getty.

In addition to her parents, husband and five infant children, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Cora Robertson; Angeline Blake; Charles Phillips; Walter Phillips; Jolene Ling; Bernard Phillips; and Ruth Rohrabaugh. Three brother in laws, Todd, Jim and Junior Getty. One sister in law, Blanche Getty.

Friends will be received Saturday, April 8th from 6-8 PM and on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana, where her funeral service will be held Monday morning, April 10th at 11AM with Pastor Kal Henry officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.
