Ruth Marie Packer, 89, lifelong resident of Alverda, died Monday May 8th, 2017 at the Communities at Indian Haven. Born in Alverda, March 14, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Joseph G. Vozer and Fay C. (Graham) Vozer. She was the widow of Roy W. Packer who died June 10, 1993. They were married December 22, 1950 and spent 42 years together as husband and wife, proud parents of three sons.

She was a 1946 graduate of the former Pine Township High School in Heilwood. Ruth knew everyone who lived in Alverda and everyone who lived in Alverda knew Ruth. She was their beloved postmaster for many years, retiring in 2005.

Her passion was her family and church. She was a lifelong member of the Alverda Christian Church where she was the pianist for 64 years. Ruth was also a church “Trustee” and the “Church Secretary”. She enjoyed having her entire family for dinner every Sunday and Holiday. Even though her home was small, she was able to accommodate whoever could come.

Ruth shared a special bond with her sister, Roselyn and her family. The two sisters loved to reminisce their younger days.

Among other interests, she enjoyed listening to music, playing the piano, attending Penns Manor football games and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.

She is survived by her sons and their wives: Robert and Denise Packer, Clymer; William and Angela Packer, Alverda and Bradley Packer, Alverda. Her adoring grandchildren are: Ryan Packer (Jenn Cribbs); Joseph Packer; Aaron Packer and wife Ashley; Sara, Mary and J.D. Roach; Andrew Packer; and Michael and Emily Packer. Her three great grandchildren are: Anthony Packer, Ty August and Gianna Marie Packer. Other surviving family members include her before mentioned sister, Roselyn Sinclair, Houtzdale, her niece, Joan Kephart and her nephew, Jack Sinclair.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her siblings: Robert and Alma Vozer.

Friends will be received Friday, May 12th from 2 – 5 and 7 – 9 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer. Her funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 10am at the Alverda Christian Church. Rev. Prewitt Duncan will officiate. Burial will be next to her husband at Pineland Cemetery, Pine Township, Indiana County.
