Obituary for Bernice Ann Leslie

Bernice Ann Leslie, 78, Indiana, died at her home, Wednesday, December 20, 2017. Born in Spangler, April 10, 1939, she was the daughter of the late, Irvin Henry Leslie and Catherine (Lyons) Leslie.

Bernice attended St. Stanislaus School in Spangler for grades 1 through 8 before graduating from Northern Cambria High School. She attended the Indiana Hospital School of Nursing where she received her certificate of nursing. She then earned her B.S. in education from Indiana University of PA. Bernice remained at Indiana Hospital where she began her forty-one year career as a nurse and held a variety of staff and management positions, retiring from the hospital in 2001.

She was an avid reader. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe, especially her trips to England and Ireland. Bernice also studied her family’s genealogy and shared her findings with her family. She dearly loved her nieces and nephews and their families and loved being with them.

Bernice was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Irvin E. Leslie.

Her nieces and nephew are: Kathy Dumm (Robert), Nicktown; Marilyn Wargo (Harvey) Nicktown and Daniel Leslie, Northern Cambria. Her great nieces and nephews are: Megan Dumm (Michelle Delany), Langhorne; Lindsay Carpinello (Adam), Hastings; and Robert Dumm, Jr., McAllen, TX; Brennan Dumm, Nicktown and Harvey Wargo, Rodgers, Ark. Bernice’s surviving great great nieces are: Ella and Charlotte Carpinello, Hastings. Bernice will also be remembered by her sister-in-law, Ellen Leslie, Northern Cambria.

Other close friends who will miss her are: Sylvia Hilty and her neighbors, Mike and Nancy Detwiler.

The family wishes to thank her private caregivers: Tracy Geer and Shannie Galonas, along with her caregivers from the VNA Hospice of Indiana County.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 22nd from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at ten o’clock at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, Indiana. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery.
