Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Barr (Black)

Elizabeth "Betty"  Barr (Black)
Elizibeth “Betty” Jean (Black) Barr, 87, of Marion Center, died Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at St. Andrew’s Village, Indiana. Born in Center Township, May 26, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Charles Black and Alverda (Faith) Black. She married Dean R. Barr on September 2m 1946. They were married for 50 years.

Betty was a custodian for 31 years at the Marion Center School District. She also spent many years operating Barr’s Greenhouse, where she always enjoyed helping others learn how to garden.

She almost always enjoyed going out to eat and she especially loved the company of her family and friends. Betty to host family gatherings in her home.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion Center.

Betty is survived by her children: Shirley Bush (Richard), Indiana; Gladys Smith (Charles), Summersville, SC; Ruth O’Hara (John), Clymer; Kathryn Gould (John), Mahaffey; Jean Kowchuck (Eugene), Ernest; and John Barr (Martha), Rossiter. She has 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Other survivors include her many cherished nieces, nephews, and a few very special friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her two sons: Charles and Larry Barr, and two grandchildren: Adam Barr, and Harry Gould. She is also preceded in death by her seven siblings.

Friends will be received Friday, March 16th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. Betty’s funeral service will be Saturday morning, March 17th at 11 AM at the funeral home. Pastor Kathy Mihoerck will officiate. Interment will be at the Marion Center Cemetery.
