Obituary for Michael E. Carney

Michael E.  Carney
Michael Elmer Carney, 53 of Clymer, formerly of Claremore, OK, died Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, Pittsburgh. Born in Wichita, KS, July 22, 1964, he was a son of Polly J. (Noble) Lathrop, Anderson, IN and the late John C. Carney. He was engaged to Lisa C. Stahl, Clymer.

Michael was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army for 9 years and served in Operation Desert Storm during the first Gulf War. After his discharge, Michael attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in education. He worked as a substitute special needs teacher.

Before enlisting, Michael attended Claremore High School, where he was a drum major in the high school band. He was a Pirates fan, who also enjoyed traveling and going on weekend trips. He liked to go fishing and loved going to museums, particularly for trains and the Johnstown Flood museums. Michael also liked cooking for his family and friends, eating and telling jokes. He attended the Summit Church in Indiana.

In addition to his mother and fiancée, Michael is survived by his children: Krista-Anne M. Walker (Aaron), Niles, OH; Michael J. Slater (Kayla), Newton Falls, OH; Donald A. Slater (Dennise), Boardman, OH; and Gwenn J. Stahl, Clymer. His surviving siblings are: John Carney (Kay), Wichita, KS; Becky Miles (Van), Anderson, IN; and David Carney (Barb), Sterling, KY. His grandchildren are: Caiden, Joel, Andrew, Charly, Sophia, Delaney, and Raylin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Wednesday, April 11th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, the time of service at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer. Pastor John Carney, his brother, will officiate. Interment will be at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the funeral home: 655 Franklin Street, Clymer, PA 15728.
