Tomes V. "Tom" Karahalios
Tomes V. “Tom” Karahalios, 88, of Indiana, died at his home Friday morning, August 24, 2018. He was the husband of Smaro (Charvalis) Karahalios and the owner of Tom’s Pizza in Indiana.

Tom was born January 30, 1930 in Greece, a son of the late William and Kristina (Vouthouris) Karahalios.

Tom came to the United States in 1959 and married his wife of 58 years, Smaro, on January 22, 1960. Together they opened Tom’s Pizza Palace on Philadelphia Street in 1970. It remained there until a fire devastated the building in 1986 and caused them to relocate Tom’s Pizza to its present location on South Seventh Street in Downtown Indiana.

Tom loved working at the restaurant and liked talking with people at the restaurant, especially talking with the children of his customers. He enjoyed telling stories about his life. He also loved music. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country in Greece.

He was of Greek Orthodox faith.

Tom is survived by his wife Smaro; his children, William A. Karahalios and Kristina A. Karahalios, both of Indiana. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings Dina, James and Michael Karahalios.

Friends will be received on Monday, August 27th from 5PM to 8PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, of Indiana. Funeral services will be private. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
