Obituary for Michael "Donald" Horchak

Michael "Donald"  Horchak
M. Donald Horchak, 87, of Indiana, died Saturday, September 1, 2018 at his home. Born in Johnstown, September 30, 1930, he was the son of the late Michael Horchak and Mary (Pavlick) Horchak. He was the husband of the former Margaret A. Schry whom he married June 12, 1954.

Don was a graduate of Johnstown High School and the University of Pittsburgh. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean War.

He worked for Penelec for ten years before moving to Florida where he and his family owned and operated a plant nursery.

Don later returned to Indiana where he was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church and served as a church usher.

He loved animals, especially the family pets. He also enjoyed golfing and helping with the pit security at the Dog Hollow Raceway.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, Margaret Ann Horchak, he is survived by his children: Mary Ann Duncan, Indiana; Michael William Horchak (Bonnie), Rural Valley; David John Horchak, Cherry Tree; Dr. Bruce Donald Horchak (Marty), Tampa’ FL; and Kathleen Diane Beckner (Matthew), Lake Worth, FL. Don will also be remembered by his ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Florence Horchak and Bernadine Omasta; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Duncan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning, September 5th at 11:30 am at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Indiana County Humane Society, 191 Airport Rd, Indiana, PA 15701.
