Obituary for Cynthia Ann Zagurskie (Simchak)

Cynthia  Ann  Zagurskie (Simchak)
Cynthia Ann (Simchak) Zagurskie, 65, of Clymer (Green Twp.), died at her home, Friday, February 20, 2015. Born January 22, 1950 in the home of her maternal grandmother in what was known as Idamar, Indiana County, she was a daughter of the late John Simchak and Martha (Kurtz) Simchak.

Cindy was a graduate of Purchase Line High School and IUP where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Elementary School Counseling. She was employed as Education Director for Indiana County Head Start for 18 years. She was also employed as an elementary school counselor for the Indiana Area School District for 22 years. She worked in the Horace Mann and Eisenhower buildings.

Cindy enjoyed being creative and learning new things. She especially enjoyed sewing and making items for wedding gowns and men’s suits. She loved to travel with her family and seeing places that she had read about come to life before her eyes. She also enjoyed baking and cooking for her family, photography, music, flowers and any opportunity to learn something new.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Holy Protection Byzantine Catholic Church, Homer City and the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary. Cindy enjoyed volunteering and helping others.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Frank T. Zagurskie whom she married August 14, 1971. Cindy is also survived by her two sons: Timothy Zagurskie & his wife, Katie, Richmond, VA; and Stephen Zagurskie & his wife, Melissa, Medina, OH. Her children were her joy and the most important part of her life.
Additionally, Cindy is survived by her sister, Rebecca Phillips & her husband, Bill, Clymer; and special cousins, Karen Rapach & husband, Randy, Canton, GA and David Chichura & wife, Debbie, Home, PA.

Friends will be received on Monday, February 23rd from 4-7 p.m. at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer. Friends and family are also invited to a Parastas Service that will begin at 4PM Monday afternoon at the funeral home. Divine Liturgy will be Tuesday morning at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Holy Protection Byzantine Catholic Church, Homer City with Rev. Father Cuthbert Jack. Interment will be at St. Bernard Cemetery, Indiana.
