Obituary for Helen Susan Ligas
Helen Susan (Bunyak) Ligas, 89, of Clymer, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. She was born June 7, 1927 in Cherryhill Township to the late Emery A. Bunyak and Mary Emma (Saparo) Bunyak. She was a widow of Walter J. Ligas, who died November 21, 2001. Together they shared 52 years of marriage and raised three children.
She was deeply loved by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Helen was an avid cook and baker. She enjoyed cooking traditional Slovak holiday meals and having family dinners. Prior to her marriage she worked at the Airport Diner at what is now the Jimmy Stewart Airport. Helen also cooked for church functions and parish festivals. She was a lifelong member of the St. John the Baptist Church, now known as the Church of the Resurrection, Heilwood where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society.
Helen is survived by her three children: Walter Ligas, Jr. and wife Donna (DeFazio), Nicktown; Thomas Ligas and wife Mary Lou (Kirsch), Starford; Lucille Ligas, Cranston, RI. Also survived by six grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and the following siblings: Anne Ligas; Mary Gresh; Emery J. Bunyak; Katheryn Allen; Joseph Bunyak; and Susan Bunyak.
Friends will be received Sunday, April 9th from 6 to 9PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 1:30PM at the Church of the Resurrection, Heilwood. Rev. Anthony J. Klimko, celebrant. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Cameron’s Bottom.
