Obituary for Joan C. Ganley (Campbell)

Joan C. Ganley, 89, of Juno Beach, FL, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Waterford Care Center in Juno Beach. Born in Pittsburgh, August 15, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Clifford A. Campbell and Emma M. (Burgawitz) Campbell. She was the wife of the late Bernard Ganley who died in 1999.

She was a 60-year member at the Graystone Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Indiana Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf.

As a young woman, Joan was a proud Girl Scout, who later in life became a Girl Scout leader. She had previously attended and worked at Camp Miniwanca in Michigan (American Youth Foundation).

She graduated from Indiana State College with a bachelor’s degree in education. While in college, she was a part of the Theta Sigma Upsilon sorority and was a member of the college swim team and archery team. Joan taught in the Saltsburg School District from 1949-1954. She subbed five years in the Homer Center and Indiana districts from 1955 through 1960. She later taught in the Home Economics Department at IUP from 1969 through 1975. During that time she was an advisor to the Kappa Delta Sorority.

For 30 years, she owned a cottage at Prince Gallitzin and enjoyed sail boating. Joan always enjoyed being near water and living near the beach in Florida. She belonged to a garden club while living in Florida and always loved the wildlife and being in nature.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Diana Ganley Burkey, Boca Raton, FL; nieces and nephews: LuAnn Ganley Eckman, Ford City; Patricia Lynn Ganley, Ford City; Robert David Ganley, Ford City; John Richard Ganley, Panama City Beach, FL; Diane Januska, OH and Dan Hollinger, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: James R. Ganley; and siblings: Helen Johnson and Stan Campbell.

A visitation will be held Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 11am-1pm at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana, where her funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery, Indiana.
