Obituary for George Andrew Knapik

George Andrew Knapik, 75, of Nanty Glo, formerly of Commodore, died Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. He was born February 22, 1942 in Indiana, PA. His father was Andrew Knapik, however he was raised by his mother, Sophia (Hritz) Knapik and her husband, John Knapik, Sr. He was the widower of Joan (Mravunich) Knapik who died January 4, 1992.

George attended classes in Commodore and at Purchase Line High School. He previously worked in the maintenance departments at IUP and Season-All Industries. Most recently, he was a resident at St. Stephen’s Living Center in Nanty Glo.

He was a very kind and gentle person. His friends and family often referred to him as being pleasant, loving and caring. George was a good husband, son and brother. He always liked the simpler things in life, like eating peppermint patties and chewing snuff. He loved the outdoors and taking long walks in the countryside. When he was younger it wasn’t uncommon for him to walk from Commodore to Clymer.

He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Clymer.

George will be missed by his sisters: Andrea M. (Knapik) Nichol, Indiana and Cynthia D. (Knapik) Skalican & husband, Mark, Commodore.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John G. Knapik.

A visitation for family and friends will be held, Tuesday, December 26th from 4 – 6 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 11 AM at the Church of the Resurrection, Clymer. Burial of George’s cremated remains will be held at a later date at Church of the Resurrection Cemetery, Clymer.
