Obituary for Mark Skalican

Mark  Skalican
Mark C. Skalican, 68, of Commodore, died Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at his home, surrounded by family. Born in Mckeesport, May 2, 1949, he was a son of the late John Skalican and Mary Virginia (Linderman) Skalican. He was the husband of Cynthia (Knapik) Skalican, they were together for 21 years and married for 11 of them.

Mark graduated from Duquesne High School and later received a bachelor’s degree from Robert Morris University. He worked as a sales manager for Season-All and Gorrell Industries for nearly 20 years. Mark was the owner and operator of “It’s a Wonderful Cup” coffee shop located in the Indiana Mall. He also worked as the Government Account Manager for Tri-Star Motors for two years.

Mark was a 1st class Sgt. in the Army National Guard. He enjoyed many outdoor activities such as swimming, fishing, hiking, taking walks, and skiing. He also loved to read, watch movies, go out to dinner, and go to the casino. He was a well decorated Boy Scout and later became a Life Scout. Being with his family was one of Mark’s favorite things, and he really loved taking trips to spend time with them, especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of Church of the Resurrection in Clymer.

In addition to his wife Cindy, Mark will be fondly remembered by his children: Matthew S. Skalican, Pooler, GA; Mark C. Skalican, Jr. (Hyunsook Kim) Louisville, CO; and Lauren M. Brandl, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and his 7 grandchildren: Nicholas Skalican, Nathan Skalican, Tyler Skalican, and their mother Jaclyn Mailloux; Leah Skalican, Sienna Brandl, Liam Brandl, and Marlee Skalican. Mark is also survived by his siblings: James Ru, Butler; Jack Skalican, Seattle, WA; and Margaret “Peg” Skalican, Myrtle Beach, SC; the mother of his children, Christine, and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Friday, April 20th, 2018 from 6 – 8 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, of Clymer. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday morning at 11 AM at the Church of the Resurrection, Clymer. Rev. George Saletrick, celebrant.
