Obituary for David W. Stiles

David W.  Stiles
David W. Stiles, 82, of Clymer, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh. A son of the late Arthur M. Stiles, Sr. and Margaret (Lovell) Stiles, he was born September 21, 1935 in Diamondville. His wife of nearly 52 years, Dorothy (Bestvina) Stiles, survives him.

Dave graduated from Clymer High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army during peace time, 1956-1960.

He worked for 42 years as a local banker in Clymer, walking to and from work and home every day for lunch. He started as a teller, worked his way up to assistant manager and then branch manager at the former Laurel Bank. Dave was a very community-minded man, who cared for Clymer.

He was a member of Church of the Resurrection, Clymer.

Dave is survived by his wife, Dorothy, whom he married October 15, 1966. Two children survive him: Carol A. Altemus (Eric), of Penn Run and Jerry W. Stiles (Tammy Rice), of Starford. His surviving siblings include Martin Stiles, of Roanoke Rapids, NC; Michael Stiles, of Cleveland, OH; and Margaret “Peggy” Marsh (Jim), of Clymer. His three grandchildren, Adam, Alyssa and Elaine Altemus survive him, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Arthur Stiles, Jr.; Robert Stiles; Dick Stiles; Virginia Polenik and Bette Tennison.

Friends will be received Thursday, July 19 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM, Friday, July 20 at the Church of the Resurrection, Clymer, Father George Saletrik, celebrant. Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Clymer.
