Obituary for Patricia Ann Parks (McDermit)

Patricia Ann McDermit Parks, 91, of Indiana, passed onto new life on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at her home.

She was born June 16, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan. The daughter of Ann (McDermott) and Robert McDermit, from early infancy, she lived with her maternal grandparents, Elizabeth (Doyle) and Martin McDermott in Nanty Glo.

She attended St. Mary’s Elementary School, graduating in 1940 with the American Legion Award. She then graduated from Nanty Glo High School in 1944 where she was the class valedictorian. Patricia graduated from the University of PA School of Nursing, Class of 1947.

She worked at Indiana Hospital for a short while, then was the school nurse for the Nanty Glo School District.

In 1949 she married Edward "Jiggs" Parks at St. Mary’s Church in Nanty Glo. Together they had five children and enjoyed thirty years of marriage until her husband’s death, January 9, 1980.

Patricia will be remembered by her children: Sr. Mary Parks, CSJ, Baden, PA; Anne Marie Cook (Jim), Akron, OH; William Joseph Parks (Patricia), Pittsburgh; Edward Arthur Parks (fiancée, Linda Kimmel), Dayton, PA; and Therese Kisic (Joe), Pittsburgh. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and a sister, Marie Therese McDermit, Mexico.

In addition to her parents and husband, Patricia was preceded in death by her brother, Robert McDermitt.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Thursday, October 18th at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 10 o’clock at the St. Thomas More University Parish, Indiana. Rev. Alan Polczynski, celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Bernard Cemetery, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: St. Thomas More University Parish, 1200 Oakland Ave., Indiana, PA 15701, or to Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden, 1020 State Street, Baden, PA 15005.
