Obituary for Joanne Simon (Kennedy)

Mary Joanne (Kennedy) Simon, 90, of Indiana, died Thursday, November 29, 2018 at St. Andrew’s Village in Indiana. Born July 13, 1928 in Blairsville, she was a daughter of the late Frank D Kennedy and Nora (Kelly) Kennedy. She was the widow of Louie Simon, who died March 25, 2011. They had been married more than 58 years.

Joanne was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Indiana where she served as a longtime Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed playing card games such as 500. She also enjoyed Bunco and was a member of a local Bunco Club. She was an active member of homemakers. Joanne especially enjoyed being with her family around the holidays and hosting family gatherings at her home.

She had worked for the former McNaughton Oil Company of Indiana.

She’ll be remembered by her children: Greg Simon (Debbie), Indiana; Cindy Hildrebrand (Steve), Bluff City, TN; Lou Ann Hames (Gary), Palm City, FL and Jennifer Polisky (Kevin), Indiana. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren: Stacie Barbus (Shawn); Matt Simon (Tamara); Chris Simon (fiancée, Katie); Jason Hildebrand (Lateasa); Michelle Tester (Terry); David Hildebrand; Megan Pollack (Justin); Michael Hames; Addison Polisky; Austyn Polisky; Chanler Polisky and Travis Polisky. And there are 14 surviving great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joanne was preceded in death by her brother, Warren Kennedy and sister, Dorothy McNaughton.

Friends will be received Sunday, December 2nd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. Visitation will also be held Monday, December 3rd from 10:30 until 11 AM, the time of her funeral service, at the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Indiana. Rev. David Hanna will officiate. Burial will be at the Blairsville Cemetery.
