Obituary for James E. Sturgeon

James Eugene Sturgeon, 71, of Clymer, died, Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at the Haida Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Hastings. Born November 14, 1947 in Indiana, he was a son of the late, John Edward Sturgeon and Dorothy L. (Ashbaugh) Sturgeon.

Jim was a graduate of Penns Manor High School and the Salvation Army Seminary in Suffern, NY. He then ministered for the Salvation Army in New York for several years. Jim returned home and began working as a coal miner for Greenwich Collieries.

He was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps where he served three years during the Vietnam War.

He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, planting and gardening. He raised Apple, Peach and Cherry Trees and could often be found tending and caring for his fruit trees. He also raised various shrub trees.

Jim is survived by his daughter: Jalon Faherty (Jonathon), Tarpon Springs, FL. He has three grandchildren: Victoria Diller and Ethan and Emily Faherty. His surviving siblings are: Carol Miles (Earl), Blairville; Richard Sturgeon (Shirley), Penn Run; John Sturgeon, Clymer; Duane Sturgeon, Clymer; Janet Stumpf (James), Shelocta; Timothy Sturgeon (Deb), Appomattox, VA; and Mark Sturgeon (Donna), Clymer.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his nephew, Lee Sturgeon.

Friends will be received Saturday, May 11th from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM,, the time of his funeral service, at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, Clymer. Rev. Robert White will officiate. Interment with military honors will be at the East Mahoning Cemetery, Purchase Line.
