Obituary for Gary Learn

Gary R. Learn, 68, of Hood School Road, Indiana, unexpectedly died at his home, Sunday, May 19, 2019. Born, May 1, 1951 in Spangler, he was a son of the late Charles R. Learn and Gladys I. (Shaffer) Learn, with whom he resided with at his current residence his entire life.

His surviving siblings are: Karen Crowder, McConnellsburg; Larry Learn (Sue), Penn Run; Donna Cummings (Jerry), Smithers, British Columbia; Donald Learn, Derry; Judy Christopher (Jeff), Crestview, FL; and Lori Cramer, (James), Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents who were already named.

Gary retired from Specialty Tires of Indiana. He had worked in the tire compounding division for more than 44 years where he also maintained a perfect work attendance record. He never missed a day of work. As a self taught rubber chemist, Gary became a valuable asset to the company, receiving many commendations during his years of service.

Gary was a self taught intellectual who was knowledgeable regarding many subjects. He could read a book, or several books for that matter, and then be able to discuss the content of the books in great detail.

He loved gardening and horticulture. He wrote formulas that helped him grow the biggest vegetables, which he in turn shared with his family, friends and neighbors.

Gary enjoyed hunting, flying model airplanes, photography, oil painting and reading. He especially loved his nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He was always willing to help someone. Gary was a blessing to all who knew him and will be greatly missed by family, neighbors and friends.

At his request there will be no viewing. His family is planning a Celebration of Life Gathering, Saturday, June 8th from 2 until 6 PM at the Clymer American Legion.
