Obituary for Denise L. Clawson

Denise L. (Lewis) Clawson, 65, of Indiana, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019, at her home. She was born in Indiana, on May 10, 1954, to the late Charles J. Lewis, Jr. and Betty (George) Lewis. She was the wife of Robert M. Clawson; they were married for 45 years.

She graduated from Indiana High School and later went on to become a bank manager. Following a 38-year career with PNC bank, Denise worked for Marion Center Bank for more than 8 years as manager of the Indiana Office.

Denise believed wholeheartedly in pay equity and women’s equality, spending her life working hard to make a difference.

Denise was very involved with various local organizations, including: President and Founding Member of the Indiana County Commission For Women; Past President and Board Member of the United Way of Indiana County; The Indiana Networking Group; Advisory Board Member of the Center for Family Business at the IUP College of Business; Leader’s Circle of Indiana - Athena Award Winner, and Past President of the PA Federation of Business and Professional Women, Inc.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Charles J. Clawson; Michael C. Clawson; and Steven P. Clawson, all of Indiana. She will also be missed by her sisters: Georgia M. Lewis, of Erie; and Michele Hanson, of Wimberley, TX; her grandson, Anthony M. Clawson, of New Orleans, LA; her brother-in-law, Thomas J. Clawson and wife Nancy, of Rotonda West, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana on Monday, November 4th, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, and again Tuesday, November 5th, from 2:00 until 4:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life reception upstairs at the Coney Island Restaurant located on Philadelphia Street in Indiana.

In lieu of flowers and cards, the Clawson family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society: 351 Budfield St. Johnstown, PA 15904. They also ask that you just spend time with your loved ones.
