Obituary for Laura J. Banks (Buterbaugh)

Laura Jane (Buterbaugh) Banks, 90, of Indiana, died Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Scenery Hill Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born April 6, 1929 in Purchase Line, she was the daughter of the late Leumel Buterbaugh and Caroline (Abel) Buterbaugh. She was the widow of Hobert C. Banks who died January 8, 1997.

She graduated from Marion Center High School and was the first in her family to become a high school graduate. Laura had a rather extensive working career that began in Washington, DC where she worked for the F.B.I., the U.S. Treasury Department and finally as a school bus driver. When she and her husband returned to Indiana County, Laura worked at the former Hills Department Store as a loss prevention specialist. She later was employed at the Indiana County Jail.

Laura was a hard worker who always strived to perform at her very best level with everything she did. As a result, she was a strong influence to her co-workers who often worked harder and were more productive due to Laura’s leadership.

She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit of Indiana, was a member of the Indiana County Board of Elections, as well as a member of the Democratic Women of Indiana County. Laura also volunteered in various clubs and organizations in the area.

She enjoyed baking, playing card games and traveling in the family RV with her late husband.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia C. Banks and her companion, William Cramer, of Indiana.
In addition to her parents and husband, Laura was preceded in death by her son, Calvin Douglas Banks and grandson, Richard Bost.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Her final resting place will be at the East Mahoning Cemetery, Purchase Line. Cremation arrangements were made with Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home Crematory through the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer.
