Obituary for Catherine Shock (Schwilm)

Catherine “Cathie” (Schwilm) Shock, 92, of Indiana unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. Born April 26, 1928 in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Schwilm and Elvina (Ball) Schwilm. She was the widow of George S. Shock, who died July 3, 2008.

Cathie was a graduate of Oliver High School in Pittsburgh. After her marriage to George, she stayed at home to help raise their family.

She was a kind and loving mother who adored her eleven children, 26 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Cathie was quite simply one of the kindest, most caring and most loving people anyone could have ever met. She was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church and she loved her church family nearly as much as her own family.

Cathie loved to give and receive hugs. And if you were ever lucky enough to receive a hug from her, you knew she was hugging you from her heart. Her smile was infectious, anyone near her would soon find themselves smiling and feeling better about their day.

She was always willing to lend a hand wherever she could help. She volunteered at her church, at the St. Vincent DePaul Society and at the Moorehead Place where she most recently resided.

Cathie was an avid reader, loved music and enjoyed singing and playing her organ. Most recently, Cathie liked to do online coloring.

She is sadly missed by her children: George “Bud” Shock, Jr., and his wife Lorraine, of Blufton, SC; Terri Medvetz, and her husband Joe, of Homer City; Vianne Shope, and her husband Bob of Harrisburg; Lawrence Shock, and his wife Mindy, of Pittsburgh; Nora Wegener, and her husband Dennis, of Ochelata, OK; Mary Williams, and her husband Pat, of Indiana; Samuel Shock, and his wife Ruth, of China; Edward Shock, and his wife Mary Ann, of Burke, VA; Rosemarie Langham, and her husband Troy, of Lucernemines; Eileen Czerniec, of Indiana. As mentioned above, she will also be remembered by 26 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Cathie was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Shock; infant grandson, James Allen Shock; and sisters, Elvina McLeod and Marianne Proch.

The Shock family asks that memorial donations be made to: St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church, 200 Clairvaux Drive, Indiana, PA 15701.

The family would like to give their heartfelt thank you to the staff of Moorehead Place and the staff of IRMC for the amazing love and care they gave to Cathie.

Service arrangements are private. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
