Obituary for Joseph F. Noga

Joseph Frank Noga, 91 of Homer City (Formerly of Clune) passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015, peacefully at his home.

A son of Stanley and Stefania (Dumana) Noga, he was born January 22, 1924 in Clune.

Mr. Noga graduated from Elders Ridge High School. He joined the Navy in World War II, serving on several ships, including DD-421, the USS Benson, and DE-238, the USS Sturtevant (during the Korean War) as an EM2 (electrician’s mate). After WWII, he worked at Torrance State Hospital, then worked for R & P Coal Mines, retiring after 35 years in the mines.

In 1951, he married Jennie Louise (Penko) Noga. They shared over 60 years of marriage, traveling to both Poland and Slovenia visiting relatives. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2012.

He was a great fan of Pittsburgh sports teams, especially the Steelers and Pirates. A smooth dancing duo with his wife, Jennie, they enjoyed going to polka dances, locally and at the SNPJ picnic grounds in Enon Valley.

Mr. Noga was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Kent. He was a member of the VFW Post 1989 in Indiana, a life member of the C & Y Sportsman Club in Shelocta, the American Legion Post 0057 in Saltsburg (over 50 years as a member), a loyal member of UMWA Local 1412 for many years, and also SNPJ Lodge 223.

Surviving are his family of four children: Joseph A. Noga, of Blairsville; Joann M. (Noga) Sharek and husband John, of Elderton; Janice L. (Noga) Kochman and husband Stephen, of Indiana; and Jeanne M. Noga, of Homer City; a grandson, Eric Noga and wife Jessica and their children, Edge Joseph and Zoey Nakita, of Derry. Also sisters-in-law, Helen Kovac, of McIntyre; Mary Ann Kellar, of Avonmore; and Pauline Anderson, of Avonmore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary (Noga) Pisch, Sophie (Noga) Eassie, Helen (Noga) Pardoe and Jennie (Noga) Koson; and his brothers, Stanley and Edward Noga.

Family and friends will be received at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, 965 Philadelphia St, Indiana from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2015. Additional visitation will be on Thursday from 9 a.m. to the time of the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Kent. Interment will follow in the St. Bernard Cemetery, Indiana.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the VNA Hospice and Palliative for the care and compassion given to Joe.
