This Book of Memories memorial website is designed to be a permanent tribute paying tribute to the life and memory of Alfonzo Fanella. It allows family and friends a place to re-visit, interact with each other, share and enhance this tribute for future generations. My debt to Mr. Fanella

When I was a junior at Portage Area High School, Mr. Fanella talked to me about having a career in science. He knew I had very good grades in science and math, even though he did not  teach the courses.  He also found out I liked the science courses. He took an interest in what I may do after graduation.  He also informed me that St. Francis College gave a competitive scholarship test in my senior year and encouraged me to take it.

I took the test and won one of two scholaships given in 1955.  Without the scholarship I may not have been able to attend college.  I went on to graduate school and a very satifying career in science and technology.  I  retired four years ago at age 73 after 50+ years having fun developing semiconductor devices and being well compensated. I can never repay Mr. Fanella for freely giving me guidance and support.  I owe him a lot and pray he is with God this day.
